Communal Housing for Women

When victims of violence are hurt physically they also suffer deep emotional injuries. Sometimes these wounds heal very slowly or re-open in times of stress. For these women it is very hard to live an independant and self-reliant life.
Women who are hurt severely, women who have developed emotional and psychological disorders following violent experiences, and women suffering from mental illnesses are often unable to deal with the consequences of violence. Women's shelters and other places for women in crisis cannot provide the kind of intensive counseling and all-encompassing assistance these women need.

It is hard to find a place where women can live safe from violence and at the same time receive professional psychiatric care. For women with children, finding adequate living arrangements is even more difficult.

The BORA Communal Housing Program for women is a place perfectly suited to the needs of women severely traumatized by violence.
