Step by Step

Step by Step – Competency Building for Mothers

In this course we accompany, counsel, inform, and support women during and after a pregnancy for 18 months. In an ongoing course, 12 4-hour meetings are scheduled in the rooms of BORA e.V. to learn more on important topics around pregnancy, becoming a mother, education, and bonding.
Alternatively, women may opt for individual counseling and support by a social worker in their home environment where these topics will be discussed in one-on-one conversations.

Target Group

The competency building course is available for expectant mothers before and after childbirth.

Objectives

The course is designed to strengthen and support women with regard to motherhood, especially to enable them and their children to live a life without violence.

Contents

Two social workers prepare the meetings and provide information on the following topics:

  • becoming a mother and one’s role as a mother
  • prenatal care
  • the mother-child bond
  • boosting child-raising competencies
  • promoting age-appropriate development
  • legal basics and rights (child allowance, maternity rights, custody, etc.)

In the one-on-one version of the course, the participant is constantly in touch with a female social worker who addresses these matters as required during home visits.
